Via Alpina de luxe, 4-day hotel-to-hotel trek

The Via Alpina is a Swiss classic. The long-distance path travels from Liechtenstein to Montreux, in 20 stages. For this Via Alpina de Luxe tour, I have selected three of the most attractive stages interspersed with accommodation in superb boutique hotels in the Berner Oberland.

The hike starts in Lenk, in the Simmental valley, where we will complete an acclimatisation hike. We will spend the night at the Lenkerhof Gourmet Spa Resort.

On day 2 we will hike to Adelboden, on the way taking in dizzying waterfalls and a view across the imposing Wildstrubelmassief. From the Hahnenmoos Pass it is possible to complete the descent by lift. In Adelboden, we will spend the night at the Cambrian, another hotel with extensive spa facilities.

On day 3, the route will take us through rougher scenery, with no sign of lifts or ski slopes! If we are lucky, we will catch a glimpse of chamois among the steep rocky walls of the three Lohners. The subsequent descent takes us to the picturesque Kandersteg, celebrated for its romantic wooden chalets. We will spend the last night at Waldhotel Doldenhorn.

The tour concludes with perhaps the highpoint of the entire Via Alpina: a hike to the Oeschinensee, a site that deserves its place on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

For those of you who left a car in Lenk, a return transfer will be arranged.

Although each day covers long distances, the degree of difficulty is reduced by the fact that our luggage will be transported from hotel to hotel so we will only need to walk with daypacks. During the course of the day we will enjoy a delicious picnic while taking in the picture postcard-perfect views.
The hotels offer rest and recovery in the spa, followed by a delicious meal.
