Snowshoe trip in picture postcard mountainscapes at the foot of Mont Blanc
The perfect mix between effort & relaxation, simplicity & luxury!
Day 1:
Our journey begins as we leave the civilisation and head towards the Bonatti Refuge, where we will spend the night. We start at the Val Ferret cross-country ski track, beginning a steady ascent of 439 meters up to the Bonatti Refuge, situated at 2,026 meters.
Before embarking on this climb, I will take time to thoroughly explain how to use our avalanche safety gear. Together, we will go over all the essential equipment—including the transceiver, probe, and shovel—and practice how to use them effectively. This preparation will ensure that everyone feels comfortable, confident, and ready for the adventure as we enter the backcountry.
The route initially follows a gentle path along a semi-frozen river, surrounded by majestic peaks, including the Grandes Jorasses. The first section is easygoing, but as we reach the forest, the ascent becomes more sustained. Once we leave the forest behind, just above 2,000 meters, we are rewarded with breathtaking views of Mont Blanc and the other towering peaks of the Aosta Valley.
After reaching the Bonatti Hut, we can finally relax and unwind. A well-deserved treat awaits us—either a glass of delicious mulled wine or a cold beer, perfect to recover from the day’s efforts. Dinner will be prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, giving us a real taste of the region as we enjoy the cozy atmosphere of the mountain refuge.
Day 2:
After breakfast, we head out directly behind the hut, following a beautiful route that leads us up to a stunning mountain col. Here, you’ll feel far removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, immersed in the serenity of the high alpine landscape. With a bit of luck, we might spot chamois along the slopes, but even without them, the panoramic views alone will make the effort worthwhile. After taking time to soak it all in, we begin our descent back down. Depending on conditions and group preferences, we can either return via the same route or take a scenic variation before heading back toward civilization. We’ll then enjoy the comforts of our 4-star hotel and its rejuvenating thermal baths at QC Terme Monte Bianco in Pré Saint Didier.
Day 3:
On our final day, we’ll take things at a relaxed pace. After breakfast, we set off on a gentle walk that begins across a wide, open plateau—perfect for warming up the legs and enjoying the fresh mountain air. The trail then leads us gradually uphill through a peaceful forest until we reach a serene mountain river. Here, we’ll take a long break for a scenic picnic surrounded by nature’s sounds and beauty. After soaking in this tranquil setting, we make our way back and prepare to say goodbye, recharged and full of memories.
