Snowshoe trip in picture postcard mountainscapes at the foot of Mont Blanc

The perfect mix between effort & relaxation, simplicity & luxury!

Day 1:

Check into the hotel and get settled in. Take some time to meet and get acquainted with your fellow hikers. In the evening, enjoy a delicious meal together at a charming local restaurant, where you can share stories and build camaraderie.

Day 2:

Today, I will check our equipment and practice avalanche rescue techniques. Then, we will hike to the Bertone mountain cabin.

Starting from a picturesque village with Mont Blanc as a backdrop, the trail ascends approximately 700 meters to the Bertone Refuge. The path leads us past a frozen lake, through vibrant red fir woods, and by a stone monument honoring the Aosta Alpine Battalion. After navigating another wooded area, the trail opens up to peaceful snow-covered pastures. A slight ascent ends at the Bertone Refuge, where you will be rewarded with spectacular views.

Day 3:

We leave the comfort of our hotel behind and head to the Bonatti Refuge, where we will spend the night. Beginning at the Val Ferret cross-country ski track, the route climbs 439 meters to the Bonatti Refuge, situated at 2,026 meters elevation.

Today’s path is gentle, following a semi-frozen river and surrounded by majestic peaks such as the Grandes Jorasses. Only when we reach the forest does the ascent become more sustained. Having left the forest behind at 2,000 meters, we will enjoy stunning views over Mont Blanc and the other impressive peaks of the Aosta Valley.

Once in the mountain hut, we can look forward to a delicious mulled wine or cold beer to recover from the day’s rigors. Dinner is cooked with locally sourced ingredients.

Day 4:

The next day, conditions permitting (both ours and Mother Nature’s), we could opt for a detour with an ascent of the Col Entre Deux Sauts or head straight back to civilization to make the most of our stay at our 4-star hotel with its beautiful thermal baths (QC Terme Monte Bianco in Pré Saint Didier).

Day 5:

After a magnificent breakfast (you can even make your own healthy smoothie!), we’ll head to Arpy, from where we’ll hike up to a picture-perfect mountain lake of glacial origin. Along the way, we will enjoy the beautiful views of the valley and likely encounter some wildlife or at least their footprints. After lunch and soaking in the superb winter mountain ambiance, it will be time to walk back and say goodbye.

For who?

For those who love being active in the outdoors but also appreciate the comfort of a 4 star wellness hotel, and last but not least…Italian Food!

Snowshoeing isn’t difficult but you have to be fit as we’ll walk up to 4-5 hours per day.
